I still have all body parts an eyes but there have been a few extra heart beats along the way. The draw back is it is very easy to double charge with a fast pistol powder, so heed all the reloading safety warnings I shot over 12K of subs I loaded just this last year an have been casting an reloading from the time my Grandfather taught me when I was 10yo that was over 60 yrs ago. The market is flush with cast projo's for most every caliber the look at a fast pistol powder rather than TB. I suggest those who reload that are just getting into subsonic shooting, start looking at casting or just buying cast bullets. With the charge weights an 193 gr projo's I use, you'll get over 1K loads from a single 1 lb bottle of powder. I quit using jacketed projo's an TB long ago, an now only use those I cast pushed by Red Dot or 700X. If the powder charge is correct each time, the speed will drop a little each shot but will level off at about 100- 150fps slower than the first shot in a barrel that had reg powder residue left behind. Then add a jacketed bullet an the problem compounds. What your seeing is the lack of trace lube that Trail Boss is not leavening behind because it's lacking in that powder. Done wrong an it can be a life changing event!!!! Done safely it's fun, cheap, an very enjoying. Donate Now Goal amount for this year: 6000 USD, Received: 4955 USD (83) Our Annual server fund drive is going on now This donation drive helps fund Cast Boolits for an entire year, and helps support our 2nd amendment rights You. Then add a jacketed bullet an the problem compounds. IMR4227 (not H4227) load data for various calibers cast bullets. Belt and suspenders for me until I get more experience with cast boolits in rifles.Click to expand. What your seeing is the lack of trace lube that Trail Boss is not leavening behind because it's lacking in that powder. Now th Bators are wearing GCs, and pan lubed with a close approximation of 45/45/10 lube and a coating of Alox. The boolits did not have GCs on them either and was cast from pure lead. The last 6 inches of bore had huge chunks of lead in it. I found out I did not use enough lube, Alox. This was my first time using cast boolits in a rifle. I had 5 rounds of each loading starting at 9 grains and increased powder charges by 0.5g for each 5 rounds. After that I started tilting the cartridge up before firing. With the 4227, the first round I tried was at 9 grains. I settled for a 1200-1300fps load for my plinking rounds. It gave great accuracy at that speed, about. That was as low as I wanted to go and that was to see if I could get there. I managed to drop the speed down to 650FPS with the reddot. I was able to pick up some red dot at a gun show and I was able to get what I was looking for in this round. Yall were right, The 4227 did not give me what I was looking for. From there you adjust the load to get what you are after, usually a compromise between desired velocity and accuracy.Īny reason that 4227 shouldnt be used reduced?Īnybody got advice on developing a reduced load? Remove the stuck bullet then go back to the load before the stick and call that your minimum. What I took away from it was to reduce the powder charge until you stick a bullet in the bore. There was great article written about developing reduced loads using the fast powders. I will be using a Bator bullet cast with soft lead and tumble lubed. I would like to make reduced loads, aka cat sneeze, that duplicate 22LR or subsonic. I have read several published articles on using the fast pistol powders but none for the 4227.

4227 works in everything else I have and I did find some standard loads for the 223 with 4227, max charge is 17 grains. Unique, 296, Red dot, green dot, blue dot are all missing from the shelves around here. Why 4227, well all the other pistol powders are not available to me. I want to see if I can do reduced loads using 4227.
